SEND

The Workplace aims to treat all students fairly and with respect. This involves providing access and opportunities for all students without discrimination of any kind. We aim to meet the special educational needs and disability (SEND) of our students and how we do this is fully detailed in the following SEN Information Report for 2022-23 (See below)

The School Environment to support SEND

The Workplace school building is fully compliant with current accessibility guidelines following significant refurbishment to current DfE standards in the summer of 2020. Disabled parking bays, disabled toilets and changing facilities, an elevator, level entry/egress and wide corridors are features of the school environment.

Curriculum Approach to support SEND

The Curriculum approach to support pupils with disabilities:

  • Our school offers a differentiated curriculum for all pupils.
  • We use resources tailored to the needs of pupils who require support to access the curriculum.
  • Curriculum resources and lessons include examples of people with disabilities.
  • Targets are set effectively and are appropriate for pupils with additional needs.
  • The curriculum is reviewed to ensure it meets the needs of all pupils including those with SEND.

Communication Methods to support SEND

The Workplace uses a range of communication methods to ensure information is accessible. This includes:

  • Internal signage
  • Large print resources/coloured paper
  • Induction loops if required
  • Pictorial or symbolic representations

Our school is also committed to ensuring staff are trained in equality issues with reference to the Equality Act 2010, including understanding disability issues. For further information on supporting pupils with SEND at The Workplace please contact Nicola.Briggs@sabden.org.uk
