It is an exciting time for Alternative Provision in East Sussex as we embark on a collaborative journey of systemic transformation and improvement.
Working in partnership with East Sussex County Council and London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT), SABDEN Multi Academy Trust is seeking committed, dynamic and talented staff to join its team at College Central – which will become East Sussex Academy (part of LSEAT) later this year.
Our school provides education for 4–16-year-olds who have been excluded from mainstream settings across the county. Demand for this provision has increased dramatically since the pandemic, creating many challenges and resulting in a need for the school to significantly improve.
To secure a successful future for staff and pupils, a transfer process is now underway – with the incoming Trust (LSEAT) working closely with us to ensure a smooth transition.
This will include relocating the school to improved, purposeful buildings within the area, which are better suited to the needs of pupils. We are also focused on expanding and strengthening our staff teams across the school.
We are now seeking to recruit an inspirational Teaching Assistant 3 – Mentor to join us at this exciting time.
The TA 3 Mentor is a key position, supporting our pupils to access lessons and overcome challenges both in and out of the classroom. Mentors offer classroom and pastoral support, working with class teachers to develop meaningful programmes.
Mentors support the tutors as part of the tutor team and act as a supportive pastoral contact for all pupils. They sometimes supervise classes to cover staff absence, working in small teams to deliver quality cover classes.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible and supportive. Whilst experience of working with young people would be advantageous, the ability to develop and sustain meaningful relationships and champion young people who have struggled to access mainstream education is key.
You should be willing to learn and keen to develop. Appropriate training will be provided for the right candidate. You might be keen to work in a school setting prior to undertaking teacher training, or wanting to develop knowledge of working in Alternative Provision and pastoral roles.
The hours of work are 8.30am–3.30pm, Monday to Friday (exact working pattern to be discussed at interview and agreed on successful appointment). We are a warm, friendly and supportive team, with additional benefits, such as free daily lunch.
If successful, you will be employed initially by SABDEN Multi Academy Trust and then transfer via TUPE to London South East Academies Trust later this year, when the school becomes East Sussex Academy.
You will be ambitious and aspirational for your pupils, with drive and determination to improve outcomes for all. In return, you will be joining a hardworking team that is committed to successful change and transformation; with a shared vision of improving lives through the power of learning.
